Scaling Design Systems
From fragmentation to systematization for a Unified UX
Lead UX Designer & Collaborator
Sales Tech
As Lead UX Designer, I led the effort to formalize and scale the Design System for the company’s custom CRM application (CRM-DS) while aligning it with a company-wide Design System (IG-DS). Partnering with Engineering and Product, I established a sustainable approach to component governance and reusability, ensuring that new components were built as shareable elements in Storybook instead of being designed ad hoc. This transformation resulted in 100% adoption within the CRM application, 60% fewer UI inconsistencies, and a 40% faster design-to-development workflow.
A System That Wasn’t Really a System
The CRM lacked a true design system, relying on a disjointed collection of components with widespread inconsistencies, missing states, and ADA compliance issues. Without a structured component library, developers struggled with inefficiencies, leading to redundant work and fragmented user experiences.
Turning Chaos into a Scalable System
I standardized components using company branding, typography, and accessibility principles, ensuring alignment between CRM-DS and IG-DS while keeping them flexible. I partnered with Engineering & Product to define when and how components should be built as shareable elements in Storybook, preventing ad-hoc development. Additionally, I established a structured review process, ensuring proper documentation and adoption for every new component.
Results & Impact
Due to confidentiality, I can’t share all details publicly, but I’d be happy to discuss the process, strategy, and design decisions in more depth. Feel free to reach out to learn more.
